The entertainment industry also maintains a heavy presence in Burnaby. There are several studio facilities and production companies and locations in Burnaby are often used for shooting television and movie productions based out of Vancouver. The quadrangle at Simon Fraser University, for example, has been used in such shows as Battlestar Galactica and The X-Files.

Burnaby, British Columbia is an extremely green city, greener even than Vancouver itself. It has one of the highest ratios of parkland to residents of any city in North America. Due to its being a bedroom community most of Burnaby, British Columbia's neighbourhoods are suburban in nature and feature single-family homes in a variety of sizes. The only exceptions to this are the neighbourhoods surrounding the SkyTrain stations, such as Metrotown, Brentwood Park, and Lougheed Town Center. Because of the advantageous location provided by the SkyTrain access, these areas feature a large retail shopping and high-rise condominium presence. It is these condos that are particularly attractive to immigrants.

Some more typical Burnaby, BC neighbourhoods are Burnaby Heights and Parkcrest. They're quiet, prestigious, and entirely residential. Burnaby Heights features a number of heritage houses, a community group that puts on local festivals, and many parks and walking trails. Parkcrest is known for its Italian feel and Mediterranean-influenced architecture.

Capitol Hill is a unique neighbourhood because it has two very different expatriate communities: Italian and Croatian, both of whom live quite happily side by side with the students from nearby Simon Fraser University. Houses in this area are generally single family, with some renovated into several apartments, but there are also a few apartment buildings along the main streets.
