Burnaby BC Homes
Your search for homes in Burnaby begins here!

New To The Area

Have you made the decision to move from east to west, maybe going to Burnaby British Columbia from Toronto? Relocation can be a stressful time, because there are so many different things you have to think about. From finding a good real estate agent to help you buy a home to finding a good school and getting your new household set up, there are a myriad of decisions to be made and tasks to be completed.

Your first task will probably be to sell the property you own on your old location. Once you have that process under way, you will have an idea about how much you have to spend on a new piece of property out west. If you are coming from Toronto, do not get any ideas about a great exchange rate as far as homes go. Burnaby is considered to be a part of Vancouver, which is one of the least affordable cities to live in according to many rankings. You will find that homes here are actually bought with large mortgages, even bigger than what you took out for your Toronto home!

If you are moving and expanding at the same time, you have to be even more prepared to pay a premium for property. Your Toronto condo may have been perfect for you and your spouse, but if you have family plans you will need something bigger. Burnaby's capacity for sprawl was reached a long time ago, and the stand alone dwellings in the city command premium prices. Most of the neighbourhoods are considered good, but again, expect to pay a high price for this type of real estate.

That said, if you are not planning on starting a family and like the idea of remaining in a condo, Burnaby should suit you just fine. The city is home to many modern residential high rise complexes, most of them state of the art. You will find buildings with ocean views as well as views of the cityscape.

To find the perfect home, though, you will need the services of a real estate agent. It's easier than you might think to find a good agent across the country, thanks to the Internet age. You can start out by asking your Toronto selling agent for names of any Vancouver real estate agents she knows. A lot of the time, real estate professionals are well connected with their peers in other cities, even those from across the country.

Contact the names on the list you have been given, and ask the usual questions about experience, areas of expertise, and so on. Once you find an agent with whom you have a good rapport, start talking about what types of real estate you are looking for and the prices you can expect. Remember to ask your agent for information about the difference between variable mortgages in Canada although there are not that many.

Moving across the country is no easy feat. There are a lot of details to consider, not least of which are those directly tied to your search for the right home. A qualified agent can greatly assist you in your search.
