Training For Your Future

The primary breadwinner of the family is usually the one to choose the location of the family's next move, and they almost always choose the city by the job openings they're qualified for rather than the other family members' desire to eventually become a Mississauga videographer or Halifax real estate agent. If you find yourself in Burnaby, British Columbia after being dragged here by a family member or significant other, here are some of the educational options you'll have to train for a future career.

Simon Fraser University

Picturesquely located on top of Burnaby Mountain, Simon Fraser University is one of Canada's most respected post secondary schools. Several times ranked #1 on McLean's lists, SFU has eight colleges. Over 32,000 students study here under 9,000 professors with the intentions of becoming class action lawyers, scientists, filmmakers, teachers, artists, doctors, and engineers. There are a number of unique programs on offer here at the graduate and undergraduate levels, such as archaeology, publishing, screen writing, and gerontology, and the beautiful campus buildings often show up in Vancouver filmed television shows. There are also satellite campuses in Vancouver and Surrey.

British Columbia Institute of Technology

Those concerned primarily with technology may find their home at BCIT, which offers some bachelor's degrees alongside the diplomas and career training certificates. Their total enrollment (including both full and part time, is in excess of 45,000 and they have several satellite campuses. Programs here help students train for everything from trades careers manufacturing Barksdale control products to bright futures at the head of computer companies.

Art Institute of Vancouver

If you have a need to create, you might feel stifled in an academic or trades oriented atmosphere, which is why the Art Institute of Vancouver exists. Despite its name, it's actually in Burnaby, and can give students the creative boost they need to do paintings, animations, or even landscaping. Waterloo students will be happy to know there are many programs including: culinary arts, web design, recording, hospitality, interior design, photography, fashion, and graphic design.

Winston College

Anyone who wants an academic education but isn't ready to go to university because their grades aren't good enough can start out at a smaller institute like Winston College. Here you can study business, health care, computers, hospitality, art, or languages with the goal of obtaining a diploma or transferring to university. Either puts you in good stead to be noticed by an executive recruiter.
